Objectives:
The increasingly close relations between
India and Singapore in recent years have been underpinned
by a dramatic growth in bilateral trade and investment
linkages. India is looking for infrastructure investments,
critical technologies and export markets. Singapore
has surplus capital and could be a useful partner in
infrastructure development in India as well as investment
in Indian companies. In pursuance of its long-standing
policy of having a balance of power that would help
ensure peace and stability in the region, Singapore
has also started strengthening its strategic partnership
with India. Against the backdrop of such positive developments,
the launch of the
India - Singapore Forum of Parliamentarians is of immense
significance, as it will provide the parliamentarians
of the two countries a common platform to dwell on issues
of mutual interest.
The ISFP seeks to examine the scope, extent
and focus of economic potential of the two nations to
complement each other for mutual benefit. It will also
analyze and make recommendations on the measures implemented
by Singapore and India to further their defense and
security partnership. In its bid to strengthen bilateral
ties, the India - Singapore Forum of Parliamentarians
will essentially exploit strategic and economic areas
for cooperation between India and Singapore, such as,
investment, joint production and marketing, and cooperation
in trade.
Further, the forum will also provide
a platform to the Parliamentarians to contemplate on
how to boost the tourism, cultural and social interaction
between the two countries. In a nutshell, the activities
of the Forum are aimed at providing a greater breadth
and depth to the Parliamentarian exchanges between India
and Singapore and also to make significant contributions
to the friendship and mutual understanding between the
two countries.
